Hess Exploration and Production Malaysia

The largest American exploration company in Malaysia.

The Challenge
It is 2022, and the shortage in the global oil & gas supply due to the war in Ukraine, coupled with the embargo on Russian oil & gas have caused the demand to increase. With this increased demand, Hess Exploration and Production realised that they needed better computing power to increase gas extraction and storage. This computing power was required by their geologists who were tasked with looking into meeting the increased demand by identifying more sites. In the same period, other world events like the global shortage of microchips, were indirectly affecting the company’s ability to quickly scale up their IT operations.

Hess was looking to work with a partner with extensive knowledge and experience in deploying solutions from multiple platforms, vis-a-vis HPe Blade servers, Storage systems, VMware and NetApp. The deployment would also call for international experience as the partner would be required to work with several different countries such as India, Malaysia and the United States for the migration and system set-up.

The Goal
Hess set out with what they deemed very straight-forward goals for their project.

  • They required the system to be deployed as fast as possible
  • The ability to coordinate with multiple principals namely HPE, VMware and NetApps
  • To ensure the system arrives in the designated timeframe despite the global microchip shortages
  • The partner was required to simultaneous deploy the solutions in both the Production and Disaster Recovery sites

The Solution
The team at Systemizer Technic leaned on their expertise on being platform agnostic, and the multi-platform capabilities of their engineers to design the IT architecture. Once the design was agreed by Hess, the Systemizer team successfully deployed HPE Blade systems and HPE Synergy in the data center to take advantage of efficacy in pooling resources, and enhanced scalability.  This was combined with NetApp storage to leverage on the powerful simplicity it affords.

The Outcome
Systemizer Technic was able to leverage on her close partnerships with HPE and NetApp to procure the required systems in a greatly reduced delivery timeframe. Systemizer managed the entire process and saw it through the customs clearances to ensure the systems arrived safely on site. The Client Solutions Delivery Team team’s multi-platform experience was instrumental in ensuring the Hess team in the United States only had to work with one team for the entire deployment.

The project was successful, and Hess was able to scale up quickly to meet the computing and storage needs, putting them ahead in their regional operations.
